ABOUT PRIMÆR

PRIMÆR is a studio built by two brothers to create one-of-one tattooed works applied to functional objects.

What began as an exploration of tattoo-inspired design has evolved into something more permanent. The studio now focuses on original works drawn and applied by hand to different surfaces and daily objects. Each piece is created once and never reproduced.

PRIMÆR exists to explore tattooing beyond skin - taking the discipline, permanence, and intention of tattoo craft and applying it to objects meant to be lived with, used, and kept. 

THE WORK

Every piece begins as an original drawing. The design is developed specifically for the object and applied by hand, line-by-line, directly onto the surface.

No templates are used. No designs are repeated.

The process follows the same principles as tattooing: patience, control, and permanence. Once a piece is finished, it stands on its own as a one-of-one work.

THE STUDIO

PRIMÆR is built and operated by Paulo and Valentino - one focused on the craft and execution of the work, the other focused on building the structure around it so the work can sustainably exist in the world.

The studio is intentionally small and process-driven. Work is released periodically, and select commissions are taken on a limited basis.

We believe that not everything needs to be mass produced.

We believe that process matters.

We believe that some things should exist only one.

PRIMÆR is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

  • PAULO LUIS, CO-OWNER

    Paulo is a versatile artist, graphic designer, mural artist, and a well-known tattoo artist in the Bay Area.

  • VALENTINO LUIS, CO-OWNER

    Valentino has an MBA in Business and a Bachelor's in Marketing and is a serial entrepreneur. He is currently a Health Systems Consultant.
